Confirmed dates: the festival takes place from 2 to 5 October 2025 in Sagres, Portugal’s biggest nature event once again turns this edge-of-the-world town into a stage of life, colour and discovery.

Sagres is getting ready for another season of natural magic: from 2 to 5 October, the town and its dramatic coastline will once again host the Birdwatching & Nature Activities Festival, the 16th edition of Portugal’s most iconic nature event.

The preliminary programme is live on the festival’s website and registrations are now open.

You can choose from https://www.visitsagres.com/activities: guided walks, land and sea birdwatching tours, mini-courses, ringing sessions, photography workshops, historical tours… And some exciting new activities this year, such as finger painting and 3-hour dolphin-watching expeditions.

During the Festival, the Forte do Beliche will once again serve as the event’s headquarters. This is where you can collect your free wristband, check the updated programme, and sign up for last-minute activities. Set on one of Sagres’ most dramatic coastal headlands, the fortress becomes the meeting point for participants, guides, and nature lovers — a place where the Festival’s energy meets the historic atmosphere of this landmark.

We recommend signing up early, many activities fill up quickly, but if you arrive during the Festival, you can still register: free activities at the headquarters, and paid ones directly with local partners.

This year’s Festival poster features the Blue Rock Thrush (Monticola solitarius), a discreet yet dazzling jewel of Sagres’ cliffs. Males shine in the sunlight with their striking bluish plumage, filling rocky slopes with a melodic whistle that echoes across the landscape. In Portugal, this solitary bird can be spotted along the rugged Algarve coastline, often perching on ruins or stone walls as a reminder of the rich biodiversity hidden within these rocky habitats. Its presence is not only a delight for birdwatchers but also a symbol of how wild nature and cultural heritage intertwine on the edge of Europe.

This edition once again brings together dozens of local partner businesses, guides, boat operators, cafés, guesthouses, reinforcing the community feel of the event and creating a truly authentic and sustainable experience.

Mark the dates and get ready to experience Sagres through the eyes of nature and the rhythm of birds in flight and crashing waves.
